A Dying Breed: The Sensitive Man

Allow me to introduce the sensitive man. 

We are the rare subspecies of man who is expressive, emotional, affectionate, and attentive.

The sensitive man's religion is sensualism. Sensualism is the love of the spirit of sex, romance and eroticism. Love is our God. Men like Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi are our prophets. And men like Marvin Gaye, Barry White, James Ingram, Luther Vandross, Jeffrey Osborne, Prince & R. Kelly are our ministers. I guess that makes R. Kelly our Catholic priest but that's besides the point.

The dominant species of man, the macho brutes, dismisses us as faggots. Though we do not belong to the gay subspecies, we share a kinship with them. I guess that makes us the male mulattos, because we represent a hybrid.

In our relationships with women, we bear the burdens of our entire sex. Women carry the baggage of previous hurts at the hands of the macho brutes. Therefore, we endure the presumption of guilt: we are pigs like every other guy until we prove otherwise.

In the beginning, the sensitive man is a breath of fresh air for women. He loves and cherishes a woman for who she is and doesn't objectify her. He cooks, opens doors. He's supportive, listens to their problems. And he's affectionate. In many ways, the sensitive man is the ideal guy.

BUT...

"When peopole don't know what sex you are, they literally don't know how to act towards you."

Most women have yet to figure out how to respond to the sensitive man. He's neither a macho brute nor a fellow woman. As a result, most women treat the sensitive man like "the gay boyfriend" or the asexual Ken doll. But the sensitive man is neither gay nor asexual.

So why do so many women castrate the sensitive man? As much as women may hate to admit, they are socialized to want the macho brute. Deep down women are chemically drawn to testosterone, even though patriarchy and chauvinism are byproducts of it. They find the sensitive man is too metrosexual for them because he doesn't follow the same mating rituals of his masculine bretheren.

When the sensitive man is castrated by a woman, an essential part of his being is destroyed. The sensitive man is not driven by money, fame, and glory like the macho brute is. The sensitive man's purpose in life is to give and receive love. But when that opportunity to love and by loved by a woman is denied and/or delegitimized, he eventually loses the will to live.

So what is to become of the sensitive man? Will women learn to open up her heart and accept the sensitive man as a viable lover? Or will she continue to keep the sensitive man at a distance and restrict his ability to love with all of his being? The answer must come soon because the sensitive man is a dying breed. When the sensitive man is not accepted and embraced for who he is, the subspecies will die out.

The world must either love the sensitive man now or prepare to mourn him.
